Responding to the Oppression Within and Around Us

Betty Anne Donnelly, who served on the board of Bread for the World with me for several years, helped launch Catholic Women Preach, an innovative project designed to address some of the most pressing challenges facing the Church today by responding to Pope Francis’ call for broader and more active engagement of the baptized in the preaching mission of the Church. "This project is a deeply faithful, hopeful and joyful initiative intended to build up the Church," says Catholic Women Preach.

The messages are presented in text and/or video. This message, based on the readings for the Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time (Isaiah 58:7-10, 1 Corinthians 2:1-5, and Matthew 5:13-16) come from Krisanne Vaillancourt Murphy, who works in the Church Relations Department of Bread for the World. "By beginning to remove the blinding, stifling oppression within us, we can more readily recognize oppression around us," is the essence of her message.
