Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham Tours Roadrunner Food Bank

Feeding America, the umbrella organization for food banks around the country (including our own Roadrunner Food Bank and The Food Depot), is in the midst of a campaign to convince every member of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate to visit their local food bank.  Supporters are asked to urge their House and/or Senate member to make the visit if they haven't done so.

"The best way to help legislators understand the scope of hunger in America is to see it for themselves," said Feeding America. "Our goal is to have every member of Congress visit a food bank in 2013."

We know at least one of the members of the U.S. Congressional Delegation from New Mexico has accepted this offer. Below is a photo of Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham with Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico  President and CEO Melody Wattenbarger. "We were so grateful she took the time to come and visit and learn about how we feed hungry people throughout the state during her visit late last week," Roadrunner Food Bank said on its Facebook page.

(The folks at The Food Depot in Santa Fe are working on Rep. Ben Ray Lujan to visit to their facility.  Rep. Steve Pearce visited Roadrunner Food Bank's distribution center in Las Cruces last year, but perhaps he can be convinced to make a repeat visit in 2013. Representatives from the Albuquerque offices of Sen. Tom Udall and Sen. Martin Heinrich are also scheduled to tour Roadrunner Food Bank in Albuquerque in the very near future ).
