A Summary of Roadrunner Food Bank's Seed Conference

By Jason Riggs

Community Initiatives Manager

The biannual Roadrunner Food Bank Seed Conference was held on June 16th and 17th 2021.  For the first time in its ten year history, the SeedCon was held virtually.  The purpose of the conference, first and foremost, was to bring the wide range of organizations across New Mexico’s food bank network together to learn, share, and celebrate our common cause; solving hunger in our state.

The conference was attended by staff from large food pantry and hot meal site operations, volunteers from churches that host food pantries, public schools with food distributions, personnel who manage senior facilities that provide residents with food boxes, and many more.  All corners of New Mexico were represented.  We had some fabulous panelists and guest speakers.

Kathryn Strickland, Feeding America’s Chief Network Officer, gave a speech praising New Mexico’s food banks pandemic response.

Gavino Archuleta from the Income Support Division of New Mexico spoke about how SNAP benefits helped thousands of New Mexicans during COVID 19..

And, Roadrunner Food Bank’s CEO Mag Strittmatter welcomed everyone and kicked off the ceremonies.

In addition to informative sessions and rousing speeches, Roadrunner Food Bank produced a short tone poem video that shows where and how food is distributed across the state.
