Food is Free Albuquerque: Everyone has a Place at Our Table

In a virtual presentation, to the Interfaith Hunger Coalition on March 8, Trista Teeter and Erin Garrison from Food is Free Albuquerque told us about the work and the history of their organization in Albuquerque.

Here are some highlights of the presentation, courtesy of Kathy Freeze. Quotes taken from the FIFABQ website

Over 14,000 pounds of food were distributed in 2019  Learn More

"Here we believe that everyone has a place at our table.  Whether we are sharing food or ideas; all are welcome at our hearth.  We understand the deep connection humans have with their food and we strive to reconnect human beings with the abundance which surrounds us all."

"We have come to realize the task of giving away food is a highly personal endeavor but even more is the acceptance of food.  Human beings are intricately tied to food and there is a deep psychological impact tied in with hunger."
Seed Distribution and sharing is an important part of the mission of FIFABQ.  A major socially distanced event is planned for March 26-28
"We will be hosting our Seed Share as a drive through this year! We will be arranging multiple sites throughout Albuquerque and the surrounding areas!...We may not be able to have a dance party in the street, but we can have our biggest Seed Share yet!!!!"   Learn More

The Seed Share is among multiple  Pop Up Projects sponsored by FIFABQ.

"Food is Free ABQ started as a Gleaning Group. It is what we know and what we love. But Sometimes there are passion projects that light our souls on fire. Those passion projects come to fruition through Pop-Ups! "

Here is a great link to one of those pop-ups Garden Box instructions (including Erin's instructional video)

There are other great tidbits of information, including a partnership with the local organizations Tree New Mexico to map fruit trees around the metro area.

FIFABQ offers a variety of opportunities for local folks to become involved.

"FIFABQ is always looking for some shuckers to help out. Tell us a little about yourself and where you'd like to get shuckin' and we'll be in touch! Here is a rundown of our volunteer opportunities. Read them over and select which you're interested a little further down in the form. "
