A Hike Along the River to Raise Awarness About Hunger

Dozens of people turned out for the Rio Grande Food Project's Walk to End Hunger. Participants had the choice of walking a loop of 2 miles, 4 miles or 6 miles along the beautiful Rio Grande bosque. Below are some photographs and descriptions. The text in Italics is taken from the official event page the RGFP website.
"ONE in SIX Bernalillo County residents and a QUARTER of our kids do not have enough food. We invite you to join us on Saturday, October 20th, 2018 to HIKE TO END HUNGER so that Rio Grande Food Project (RGFP) can continue its critical mission of providing emergency food aid to 420 households every week or 4,230 kids, adults and seniors every month."

Dozens of people (many accompanied by their canine family members and children) accepted this invitation and challenge to raise awareness about hunger in the Albuquerque area and to support the Rio Grande Food Project's efforts.  While there was no registration fee to participate, people helped support Rio Grande Food Project by purchasing event t-shirts and by donating directly to this vital operation.

"We hike to raise awareness, to strengthen our resolve to end hunger and to increase support and funds for RGFP, the largest food pantry on Albuquerque's west side. With 1.1 million pounds of food passing through our doors annually, we envision a community where EVERYONE has enough food to live healthy, active lives. Along with food aid, RGFP also provides access to community resources that address the causes and effects of food insecurity so residents can achieve long-term success and stability."

"DOGS LOVERS! Bring your big dogs, little dogs, skinny dogs, plump dogs, athletic dogs - even couch potato dogs! The Trail and Boxing Bear patio are dog-friendly."

Hikers were treated to beautiful weather on this Saturday, and the fall views of the Rio Grande and the bosque were exquisite.
"What better way to spend a Saturday morning in October, surrounded by golden cottonwoods, enjoying the fresh autumn air and a sense of community, all with the purpose of helping local kids, families and individuals receive enough quality food to live healthy lives."

"ALL HIKES finish at Boxing Bear Brewing Company so feel free to join us for award-winning brews, cider, St. Claire wines and and a variety of lunch options for purchase from Boxing Bear and participating food trucks. EAT, DRINK and CELEBRATE helping your neighbors have enough food to live healthy lives!"
