In January, the state government decided not to renew the contract for the Non-Metro Area Agency on Aging (NMAAA), which put the End Hunger Day at the State Legislature and the annual End Hunger Summit in peril. The NMAAA, throught its non-profit affiliate New Mexico Cares, was in charge of the two events. Fortnately, the New Mexico Association of Food Banks decided to take on the role of organizing the End Hunger Day, and the state decided to continue its contract with the NMAAA, albeit under tighter supervision.
This means that there will be a Fifth Annual End Hunger Summit, under the direction of Dolores Gonzales. The preparations for the event, which will be held on Sept. 25, have begun. Here is the initial publicity. So, mark your calendars. More details are forthcoming. (The Interfaith Hunger Coalition was fortunate to deliver one of the keynote addresses last year, and we look forward to participate in some form in 2018). Read more about the hunger summits in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Stay tuned for more details about this year's summit.
