World Refugee Day: Celebrating a Culturally Diverse Albuquerque

The United Nations' (UN) World Refugee Day is observed on June 20 each year. This event honors the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homeland under threat of persecution, conflict and violence. In Albuquerque, organizers (Lutheran Family Services, Catholic Charities and Bernalillo County) have scheduled the annual celebration on Saturday, June 18, 11:00 am-2:00 pm at Cesar Chavez Community Center 7505 Kathryn SE (map)


The event, which celebrates diversity in Albuquerque, will feature  music, dancing, art activities, and free food and drinks and performances by special guests Sol de la Noche and Basade (Bells & Shakers African Dance Ensemble).Traditional attire is encouraged and celebrated.
