Souper Bowls in Santa Fe and Albuquerque in January

We are a people of traditions. And for those of us  in the United States, the big tradition in late January-early February is to create a big event from the championship game for the National Football League. The game, known as the Super Bowl, offers an opportunity for charitable organizations (particularly food banks) around the country to raise awareness about hunger and to raise funds for their operations. Many restaurants and food-service outlets join in the effort. Our two largest food banks in New Mexico are no exception.  Here is information about the Souper Bowl in Santa Fe to benefit the Food Depot and the Souper Bowl in Albuquerque, which will support Roadrunner Food Bank.

Which of our community’s finest restaurants has the best soups in Santa Fe? You decide! The 21st annual Souper Bowl, a benefit event for The Food Depot, Northern New Mexico’s food bank, will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 12:00 to 2:30 PM at the Santa Fe Community Convention Center.

Guests will thrill in the competition, grab some fabulous silent auction items and have an opportunity to purchase a cookbook featuring soup recipes from Santa Fe’s finest chefs! Small trays to help you carry the many delectable soup samplers are also available for purchase.

This year's competition will feature soups from 29 local restaurants that will be competing in four categories--Best Cream Soup, Best Savory Soup, Best Seafood Soup, Best Vegetarian Soup--with all restaurants competing for the Best Overall Soup.

Every January, our popular Souper Bowl is held the weekend prior to the NFL’s Super Bowl.  Rather than a football event, this is a soup and dessert sampling event featuring more than 40 restaurants and chefs.

In addition to featuring great food, event guests can enjoy live music,  a silent auction, purchase commemorative cookbooks and much more!  Attendees also participate in our People’s Choice voting and vote for their favorite soup, vegetarian soup, dessert and booth.
