Albuquerque to Observe World Refugee Day on June 21

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) observes World Refugee Day every year on June 20. The special day was established by the United Nations to honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes under threat of persecution, conflict and violence. Actress Angelina Jolie tells you more in this short video.

In Albuquerque, the American Red Cross, Catholic Charities and Lutheran Family Services are planning a commemoration on Saturday, June 21, 11:30 A.M.-3:00 P.M., at the César Chávez Community Center, 7505 Kathryn SE.  The theme this year is "Everyone Under the Sun."  There will be music, story telling, art displays, soccer, art projects, and information booths for community services.
