Love Thy Neighbor (Advocate for Thy Neighbor)

I know Derick Dailey fairly well.  We both have the privilege of serving on Bread for the World's board of directors.  And  I have only met Rev. Jeanette Salguero in passing. She participated with her husband, Rev. Gabriel Salguero, in a very powerful presentation at the national gathering in 2011. Derick and Jeanette  both offer powerful perspectives in this video below, which is part of the media materials to promote the 2013 Offering of Letters.

Take a few minutes to watch this video, and consider asking members of your congregation or group to join you in writing Congress to take actions that protect the most vulnerable in our society.

Here are a couple of quotes form the video:
One of my favorite scriptures Micah 6:8 O what does the Lord Require of You? But to do justice, to love mercy and walk humbly with God. My hope is that we have a government that puts Love thy Neighbor at the center our legislative agenda, Democrat or Republican, we have a responsibility and obligation to our country and our world to make sure that those poeple that don't have the resources that we're blessed with, that we can give them a hand up.  - Derick Dailey

Being a Christian to me is advocating, is reaching out, extending the hand. If someone is being thrown from a mountain, the church is very good about asking Can I help you, Can I heal your wounds? However, the church also needs to ask who is launching them from the mountaintop..why are these individuals suffering.
- Rev. Jeanette Salguero
