New Mexico Anti-Hunger Advocacy Workshops

 

The Interfaith Hunger Coalition is partnering with Bread for the World-Southwest Region, Bread New Mexico, the Lutheran Advocacy Ministry and the New Mexico Conference of Churches to put together three workshops on state legislative advocacy in New Mexico. The workshops will be held on Wednesdays, February 3, February 10, and February 24, all at 6:30 p.m.

During the one-hour gathering, we will provide information on the 2021 statewide advocacy campaign, particularly the proposed Food, Hunger and Farm Bill of 2021. We will offer other resources and information, including how to connect with your state representative and senator during a pandemic.

Each workshop will be tailored to a specific region, but anyone is welcome to participate on any of the dates. 

  • Feb 3 is for the Central Region (Albuquerque). Prayers by Congregation Albert, All Saints Lutheran Church
  • Feb. 10 for the South (Las Cruces, Roswell, Carlsbad, SIlver City). Prayer by Peace Lutheran Church in Las Cruces and possibly another congregation.
  • Feb. 24 for the North (Santa Fe,Taos, Gallup, Las Vegas) Prayers by First Presbyterian Church in Santa Fe and Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Los Alamos

NM Food and Agriculture Policy Council Legislative Updates

The New Mexico Food and Agriculture Policy Council, an endorsing organization of the Interfaith Hunger Coalition, will hold weekly Action Meetings on the New Mexico State Legislature,

Meetings will focus on:
  • NM Food & Agriculture Policy Council legislative priorities review/progress/actions  Legislative Priority Sheet
  • New legislation to share, discuss, and action options
  • Upcoming committee hearings and actions
  • Coordination among the group and messaging

Interfaith Eco-Justice Series, Sacred Land: Food and Farming

Join New Mexico Interfaith Power and Light for an eight-week interfaith/interspiritual series on Food and Farming exploring the connection between spirituality and caring for the land. In (virtual) community with others, you will learn how food and farming practices affect the climate crisis, marginalized communities, and even your own health and spiritual wellbeing. You will explore practical ways to implement sustainable food and farming practices in the communities and institutions of which you are a part.NM-IPL is an endorsing organization of the Interfaith Hunger Coalition.
 
This offering is free and open to people of all spiritual or religious backgrounds who are interested in the connection between spirituality and food production. You will only need to borrow or purchase the book Braiding Sweetgrass. To sign up, send email to carlos@nm-ipl.org.

Virtual Concert to Benefit New Mexico Food Banks


Top musicians, singers, and songwriters are taking part in the virtual “Food for Love” concert to benefit New Mexico’s food banks. The concert will be held on Valentine's Day Eve, February 13, 2021.
