An Offering of Letters Workshop in the City Different

Join us in Santa Fe on Saturday, March 29!

We have scheduled our Offering of Letters workshop at St. Bede's Episcopal Church, 1601 South St. Francis Drive, 9:30 A.M. until Noon.

The workshop will follow a similar format to the one we are planning in Albuquerque on March 8.

We will show the Offering of Letters DVD, talk about strategies for writing letters and discuss ways in which churches, congregations and groups can promote the Millennium Development Goals in addition to writing letters. Those options include media work and involvement in The ONE Campaign.

If you want to watch the Offering of Letters video on-line, click this link. You have the option of watching either in Windows Media Player or RealPlayer (scroll down when you open the page)

GUEST SPEAKERS:

  • Tom McDermott, former United Nations Regional Director for the Middle East, who will give us a general update on the Millennium Development Goals. He will talk about the challenges countries face in responding to the MDGs.
  • Other Speakers have been invited (watch this space for updates)
Please RSVP via this link if you know you are coming. (It is not essential, but it would help us get a better idea of how many people to expect)

Saturday, March 8, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 5301 Ponderosa NE (near Comanche and San Mateo), from 9:30 A.M. until noon.

We will show the Offering of Letters DVD, talk about strategies for writing letters and discuss ways in which churches, congregations and groups can promote the Millennium Development Goals in addition to writing letters. Those options include media work and involvement in The ONE Campaign.

GUEST SPEAKERS:
  • UNM Law School Prof. Jennifer Moore, who will give us an update on the Millennium Development Goals. Jennifer, who has been involved with Bread for the World for many years and is a member of St. Andrew, at one time served with the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Guinea.
  • UNM Medical School Prof. Emeritus Dr. Darwin Palmer, who will give us an update on the global AIDS picture. Dr. Palmer has been studying the AIDS/HIV situation for many years, including a two-year project in Zimbabwe.
We hope to invite a one or two more speakers to tell us about issues related to The ONE Campaign.

Our message to Congress with this year's Offering of Letters is very simple:
-Approve an additional $5 billion in poverty-focused development assistance for 2009
-Ask our Senators to cosponsor the Global Poverty Act, S2433
